Bio
86plot is the solo project of Bob Benson, an Iowa-based producer, composer, and educator. Broadly categorized as 'electronic music', each release from 86plot intends to push the boundaries of traditional genres, blending elements of cinematic scores and experimental compositions with conscious hip-hop and commercial pop.
Waiting to Blink, the debut EP from 86plot, was released in 2018 with 100% of proceeds benefiting autism research at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
The follow-up experimental release, Identity Crisis, is a dynamic mashup of original music and dialogue from Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author. The concept album explores themes of soul-searching amid destructive behavior.

Praise for Identity Crisis
…[a] masterpiece of consciousness and awareness of one’s own self and self-indulgences . . . this album is intriguing . . . Each track has grooves and hooks that make you want more. ...[the song 'Identity' is] a beautiful piano tune. ...[Identity Crisis is] something like Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton . . . This is most evident on 'Red Handed,' which has some of Miranda’s hyper-literate, hyper-enunciated flow . . . This is an ambitious work . . . Identity Crisis is an album that makes you think about more than just being entertained; this album forces you to consider the world around us and how we engage with it. It’s also very good to listen to. |
